Famed screenwriter and producer Aaron Sorkin’s background is in the theater, and started his career as a promising playwright before going on to write such films as A Feed Good MenThe Social Network, along with television shows like Sports Night and The West Wing.
Sorkin’s theater background is worth keeping mind, given the latest revelation he has dropped concerning the plot and structure of his upcoming bio-pic based on the life of Steve Jobs.
According to tweets coming from inside the Hero Summit, Aaron Sorkin says that the movie will take place as three 30-minute scenes, all happening in real time. Each of these scenes will happen backstage at an Apple product announcement.
If you know theater, you can see this is a classic three-act play structure, and hints that Sorkin’s take on Steve Jobs will be more introspective and creative than hashed out efforts like the upcoming jOBS starring Ashton Kutcher.
The big question to my mind is, which three product announcements? My guess would be that it would be for the classic Macintosh, the original iPod and the iPad. I know, the iPhone’s a more obvious choice, but the iPad debuted during a period when Steve Jobs’s cancer had returned and he probably knew his time was nearly up. Dramatically, that makes more sense to me. What do you think?
